Suitcase cake or a story started 7 years ago

Today our family makes seven years life abroad. Exactly on that date we left our country with hearts filled with many mixed feelings. Everybody who ventures out into the world knows all the emotions in such crucial moment. There was a little bit of everything - thrill of meeting something new and different, readiness to start a new life on a new place, passion to meet new cultures and traditions and at the same time some fear of the unknown, some sadness of leaving close friends and relatives, beautiful places. Very mixed feelings and emotions....they can't be explained in couple of sentences. But that was our case. Everybody has its own story.
In the beginning we counted every single month, every single year....after that we stopped thinking about the time. There were more important things than the numbers. Accidentally last week the question "How long have you been living here?" reminded me about the date...And immediately after that the idea of making a cake  expressing our life changing decision and  the attendant emotions came into my mind.
I don't want to turn this post into very emotional story and that's why I'll stop here. I would like just to mention that when we left our country seven years ago we were with much more suitcases than this on the picture :). I decided to make a cake in the shape of these old suitcases that we know from our grandparents or from the black and white photos. It looks very authentic.

With this cake I would like to wish good luck to all people who have taken or are taking right now or will take a decision like ours, who are ready for new adventures and discoveries.

Chocolate and bluebery cupcakes

Look at through the window... another rainy day. Another day with clouds and no sun! How desperately we need the sun rays, the good weather, the smiles and the walks along the river...
While we all are waiting for the sun I decided to boost your mood with something yummy-yummy :) I made some chocolate muffins with chocolate chips and some blueberry muffins. After that I covered them with thin layer of vanilla icing and I made quick fondant decorations using the silicone molds. And here it's the final result....Bon appetit!

Preparation for the International Children's Day

Yesterday I started looking for some cake ideas for June 1st - the International Children's Day. Although this Day is "International" here, in Canada, almost nobody knows about it. Here there is a weekend in August that is dedicated to the kids and there are plenty of activities for the whole family. It's a great fun! But in June 1st...nothing...
My friends who know me very well know that our family never misses a holiday! We enjoy the celebrations, the parties and the whole fun around them. That's why I want, of course, to surprise my kids with a cake made especially for them. Although my kids are very young and there isn't a big age difference between them, they have different interests and hobbies and I don't know how to include everything in one cake that will express what they like. That's why yesterday I made a colorful cake without any specific decorations but with nice colors. Anyway, this is just the beginning of my experiments for June 1st.
There wasn't any doubt when last night they first started picking up the blue sprinkles spread on the top of the cake and the tiny fondant flowers that I put around the top border. It was such a mess! But that was the point  - to make the kids happy!

And now I will refresh your memory with the cake that I made for my kids last year.

If you want to surprise your kid with a cake in his favorite colors and characters, I will be happy to create your gift and together we can bring smiles on his  face :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Today's cake is dedicated to my mother. Unfortunately, we live far, far away and I couldn't make a real cake for her. That's why for this Mother's Day I will send her just some pictures of it....I would like to thank her for everything that she has made and she is still making for myself, for all the support and love during the years. I love you, Mom!

Of course, I made the cake with a lot of love and extremely quickly. But not because I was in a hurry. I simply had the desire and thrill to make it. I didn't even want to stop for a second. I wanted to be with a lot of different flowers as the different angles of mother's love.
Mothers show love to their children in a different way. As a mother of three amazing kids I know how difficult it can be sometimes to express your feelings in the way that your kids will understand you.
Sometimes we kiss and hug them and we can't live a second without them, sometimes we are tired and exhausted of our everyday routine and we don't want to listen anymore to our children's problems and complains. Sometimes we are sad and we cry when our kids cry, sometimes we stay sleepless when they are sick or unhappy, sometimes we can be angry and can shout, sometimes we are not patient enough, sometimes we feel sorry and we feel helpless...But it doesn't matter what's going on we are always there for them! We protect, support and encourage our kids... Because we love them! Even when we are severe we are doing this just because we love them and we want the best for them! Simply... we are mothers....
That's why I made a bouquet of colorful flowers as our colorful love.
Let's thank today our mothers and  all women who have an important role in our lives.

Happy Mother's Day,Mom!

And now some words about the cake. This is kind of raw cake because I didn't bake even a single layer. I used a real plant pot for the shape of my cake. I covered the walls of the pot with plastic wrap and then I started with my experiment :) I made the walls out of my favorite blend of dried fruit and nuts. This time I used only raisins, walnut and ground tea cookies. I covered the bottom of the pot with the same blend. In the center ( imagine a big hole in the pot) I arranged in layers mini eclairs with Bavarian cream.I put cream filling between the layers made out of sour cream and Philadelphia Chocolate. Amazing combination!!! Believe it or not, it's irresistible! This cream was to the top of the pot. I put some hand ground crumbs of a chocolate layer that I have baked before to pretend soil. You can use ground Oreo cookies too. When I took out my cake out of the plant pot I covered the walls with modelling chocolate. It's easy to work with it if you warm it a little bit. And finally I arranged my flowers made out of fondant. The grass I made of cocoanut flakes colored with green edible food color that you can find in each food store.
And now I'll stop with the explanations. It's time to celebrate!

Wedding anniversary cake

Today's cake was ordered by Rositsa  ( I made a cake for her daughter not a long time ago and you can see it here) for her friends Eli and Stancho who will celebrate their wedding anniversary on May 6th. What a nice surprise!
The cake is made out of three different color layers - 2 cornflower blue, 2 sky blue and 2 white. I used one of my husband's favorite fillings- fluffy light chocolate cream with a touch of sour cream. The other decorations you can see from the photos.

Happy anniversary, Eli and Stancho! Although we have never met each other I would like to wish you to keep your love as strong and passionate as it was in the first moment of your life together!

Chocolate treats with rum and daisies

And here are my homemade chocolate treats for my family and friends. I made them with a box of chocolate cake mix , some sour cream and rum. When I made the balls I put them for 15 min in the freezer and then continued with the decoration. At the beginning I was planning to cover them with chocolate but because of lack of time I just decorated them with these tiny daisies.
It's very easy to make them and it will not take you a lot of time. That's why if you a fan of that kind of treats, go for it. Good luck and bon appétit!
